The number of animal slaughters in domestic slaughterhouses increased in 2025

4 million 955 thousand pigs were slaughtered in Hungarian slaughterhouses in 2025, 3.6 percent more (+173 thousand pieces) than in the previous year. The live weight of the slaughtered animals totaled 592 thousand tons, and the carcass weight was 476 thousand tons, i.e. both the live and carcass weight exceeded the value of the same period of the previous year by 5 percent. Nearly 242.6 million pieces of poultry were slaughtered in 2025, 2.3 percent more than in the previous year. The total live weight of slaughtered poultry was 748 thousand tons, and its carcass weight (cleaned, dismembered weight) was 562 thousand tons in this period. In the poultry group, duck slaughter decreased by 35 percent, goose slaughter by 1.1 percent in this period, while turkey slaughter increased by 6.1 percent. 101.6 thousand cattle were slaughtered in 2025, 19.7 percent more than the previous year. The live weight of slaughtered animals was 53.7 thousand, and the carcass weight was 28.7 thousand tons. The live and carcass weights exceeded the values ​​​​of the previous year by 24 and 27 percent, respectively.
