Producer prices of broiler chickens and broiler turkeys have increased

According to the slaughter statistics of the Hungarian Institute of Animal Husbandry, 474.5 thousand tons (live weight) of poultry were slaughtered in Hungary in the first eight months of 2025, 2.7 percent less than between January and August 2024; of which broiler chickens accounted for 375.3 thousand tons (+7.1 percent), broiler turkeys for 47.2 thousand tons (+3.9 percent), broiler ducks for 37.7 thousand tons (–50.0 percent), broiler geese for 10.5 thousand tons (–10.9 percent), and broiler hens and roosters for 3.8 thousand tons (–13.6 percent).

According to data from the European Commission, the EU average price of whole chickens was 292 euros/100 kilograms in the first forty-two weeks of 2025, which exceeded the previous year by 8 percent. According to AKI PÁIR data, the live weight producer price of slaughter chicken in Hungary increased by 7.6 percent to 446.6 HUF/kilogram, and that of slaughter turkey by 9.1 percent to 643.6 HUF/kilogram in the first forty-two weeks of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The processing sales price of chicken breast fillet was 2010.8 HUF/kilogram (+14.6 percent), bone-in chicken breast was 1271.9 HUF/kilogram (+9.2 percent), chicken breast (total) was 1921.3 HUF/kilogram (+11.3 percent), and chicken leg was 917.6 HUF/kilogram (+4.3 percent) in the observed period.
