For the first time, rural Hungarian restaurants received a Michelin star

For the first time, the French restaurant guide Michelin Guide published a restaurant guide for the whole of Hungary (National Selection of Hungary), which also awarded rural Hungarian restaurants with the Michelin star rating.

The anonymous inspectors of the restaurant guide awarded two Michelin stars to the kitchens of Platán Gourmet in Tata (chef: István Pesti) and Stand in Budapest (Tamás Széll and Szabina Szulló) – it was announced at the award ceremony in Budapest on Thursday evening.

Seven restaurants won a Michelin star: from Esztergom 42 (Ádám Barna), and from Budapest Babel (Kornél Kaszás), Borkonyha (Ákos Sárközi), Costes (Levente Koppány), Essencia (Tiago Sabarigo), Rumour ( Jenő Rácz) and Salt (Szilárd Tóth).

Anyukám Mondta (Encs), Casa Christa (Balatonszőlős), Kistücsök (Balatonszemes), Macok (Eger), Mór24 (Mór) and Sparhelt (Balatonfüred) won the Bib Gourmand award for excellent value for money restaurants .

The award for the best young chef went to János Mizsei (Mák restaurant, Budapest), the award for the warmest hosts (Welcome and Service Award) to Flóra Kvaszniczáné Marjai and Ferenc Kvasznicza (Pajta restaurant, Őriszentpéter), and the best sommelier award to Balázs Langó (Clarisse restaurant, Tura) could take over.

The Green Star award for sustainable gastronomy was awarded to Almalomb (Kitti Szabó) in Lunghetény, Graefl Major Kétútköz (Ádám Gyűjtő) in Poroszló, Onyx Műhely (Anna Niszkács) in Budapest and Salt (Szilárd Tóth), also in the capital.
