The government is committed to supporting domestic processing plants

New support decisions have been made in the food industry: 114 investments will receive almost 200 billion forints in funding through a tender aimed at the complex development of processing plants. Furthermore, thanks to the positive tender decisions, numerous small businesses can modernize and develop, announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture.

The Minister emphasized that it is an important goal from the perspective of the national economy and food security to put as many domestically produced products on the tables of Hungarian families as possible, and to increase the competitiveness of the sector. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for the government to support viable tenders that support the entire agricultural vertical. The amount of funding allocated to the food and processing industry is approximately 500 billion forints, which is made possible thanks to the government’s historic decision, with 80 percent co-financing.

The minister highlighted that the call for proposals entitled “Support for the complex development of processing plants” was very popular, with a total of 548 applications for support received, with a request of approximately 700 billion forints. By reallocating the resources of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, the Ministry of Agriculture is able to support the development of domestic enterprises to the greatest extent possible, in addition to the original application budget of 150 billion forints. The aim of the investment support is to increase the value of agricultural products and implement technological developments that facilitate their access to the market. Thanks to this, individual food industry players can implement their larger-scale developments in order to create a more competitive corporate and production structure with products with higher added value.

He also mentioned that in the case of the other tender, “Support for the Development of Processing Plants” aimed at domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, the Managing Authority is supporting 554 projects based on the decisions made so far. Thus, numerous enterprises can renew their production technology for processing agricultural products, modernize or expand their existing plants, renew their energy systems, and acquire new equipment and machinery, with a value of HUF 34.4 billion.
