The promotion of the Hungarian melon has begun in the Tesco stores
This year, about a quarter more melon will grown on a 20 percent larger area in Hungary, than in 2012. The production of fruits provides livelihood for 10-12 thousands families – Fazekas Sándor, Minister for Rural Development said at the Tesco Extra store in Angyalföld, at the melon promotional campaign launch event on Thursday.
Fazekas Sándor stressed that it is important that consumers choose domestic melons, because they can help the Hungarian families this way. Overall, the sector provides livelihood for about 25 thousand people in Hungary – the minister added.
Tesco last year bought 10 thousand tons of melons from Hungarian producers and exported 3 thousand tons. This year Tesco is intended to purchase at least as much – Nigel Jones, CEO of the company told. (MTI)
