Hungarian melons have started to be sold at Auchan
Although this summer started cooler than average, and the first domestic melons arrived on store shelves a little later than usual, and they come from the most important melon-growing regions this year – Békés, Szabolcs, Baranya and Tolna counties. Moreover – after one of the suppliers was integrated into the international supply chain – Hungarian melons may also appear in the offer of Polish and other European Auchan stores this year.
Auchan’s offer this season is extremely diverse: striped seedless watermelons and black-skinned seedless watermelons, and among melons, cantaloupe and galia (sugar) melons from domestic sources are offered. In addition, Spanish piel de sapo (green-fleshed melon) and honeydew melon will be available, as well as Italian dinosaur egg-shaped melons, and the also Italian Limelon melon, which, true to its name, has a pleasant citrusy refreshing aroma and is juicy. This year, a new product in the domestic offer is the melon with the fancy name Melonie, co-branded with the supplier, which is expected to be available in packaged form in Auchan stores from the end of July.
“We continue to place great emphasis on quality. We check the melons by caliber and sugar content to offer impeccable, juicy fruits. We are in constant contact with our partners to provide our customers with the widest possible selection of fresh, juicy and tasty fruit in line with current demand,”
– emphasized Attila Nagy, Sales Director of Auchan Hungary.
Auchan works stably with seven Hungarian supplier partners and considers supporting domestic producers to be of utmost importance. Although this season started late due to weather conditions, the supermarket chain expects an 11% increase in turnover and 4% in kilograms by the end of the season compared to last year.
