The Joy of Giving has begun! – thousands of volunteers are waiting for donations nationwide
The personal collection phase of the Adni Öröm! fundraising campaign has started: between December 11 and 16, 2025, thousands of volunteers will be waiting for customers’ non-perishable food donations in selected SPAR stores and all INTERSPARs. The Hungarian Maltese Charity Service and SPAR Hungary are working this year to ensure that the warmth of the holiday reaches even the most disadvantaged people. Customers can hand over their purchased food to volunteers after the checkout, who will ensure that the packages reach those in need before Christmas.

“The Joy of Giving! is the largest fundraising campaign of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, in which thousands of our volunteers are participating across the country this year. They are the ones who are there in stores every day, accepting donations from customers, packing in warehouses, and often personally delivering the food to people in need. Every donation counts, from pasta and canned goods to cooking oil and small sweets, every support is a real help”
– said Tamás Romhányi, communications manager of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service.
This year’s The Joy of Giving! campaign draws attention to the fact that some products purchased for donation not only provide help, but also give real festive warmth to a person living in a difficult situation, as behind donations there is always the power of personal care, which is often a greater gift than the food itself. The visual world of the campaign also carries this message: the Maltese box contains not only food, but also light, hope and the warmth of human care.
“With our strategic partner, the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, we launched the Adni Öröm! fundraising campaign for the 29th time. The work we do together proves year after year that small acts of kindness can create a holiday for those who need it most. We encourage our customers to join this collaboration if they can. Each piece of non-perishable food carries more than we think: the power of attention and humanity”
– highlighted Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.
The greatest help for families in need is dry pasta, rice, canned goods, cooking oil, sugar, flour, baby food, instant soups, allergen-free products, as well as small sweets and holiday snacks. The incoming food is sorted and packaged by volunteers in the warehouses of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service. The carefully assembled packages are delivered to families in need, the elderly, the sick and people with limited mobility before Christmas.
In addition to personal donations, donation cards can also be purchased in designated SPAR and INTERSPAR stores between November 28 and December 16, 2025. The donation cards are available in values of 1,000, 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 forints, and a new 399 forint denomination is also available at INTERSPAR checkouts this year, which is available until December 31, 2025.
