The payment of subsidies to butcher shops has started
The Ministry of Agriculture, which entrusted the Herman Ottó Institute with the payment of the subsidy, has started. The success of the tender announced in February is proven by the fact that 813 businesses won support in the amount of 2 billion 515 million forints, said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy.
The head of the ministry emphasized that despite the energy crisis and the difficult economic environment as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the failed Brussels sanctions, the government remains committed to supporting the Hungarian countryside and small settlements. That is why they decided to support butcher shops operating as micro-enterprises despite the current economic challenges, he added. István Nagy reminded that the support could be used by micro-enterprises whose scope of activity includes the retail trade of meat and butcher’s goods, and it was actually carried out in 2022. An additional condition for winning the tender was the commitment that the company would continue its activities until at least December 31, 2023. An important stipulation was that the applicant could not be in the process of liquidation, liquidation or compulsory liquidation at the time of submitting the application, and that he must be free of public debt. A business was given the opportunity to submit an application, regardless of the number of butcher shops it operates, with a maximum value of HUF 3.5 million.
The winning applicants can use the support to finance utility bills (water, gas, electricity, district heating, sewerage, telephone charges), settle room rental fees, and pay wages and their contributions.
The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that small butcher shops, as actors of local supply, contribute to the realization and maintenance of food security and, in addition, provide work for the people who live there. These shops are the population-retaining force of small settlements, so their support is extremely important from a social and demographic point of view, the minister added.
