The Sustainable Tourism Index calculator has been launched
The Sustainable Tourism Index calculator, which is free for tourism service providers and attractions, has been launched. The initiative aims to support domestic tourism service providers on the path towards sustainable operation, based on international best practices – Innotime Hungary Kft., which developed the program, told MTI.
The calculator is based on international sustainability criteria defined by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). The platform allows tourism actors – be they accommodation facilities, catering units, tourist attractions or program organizers – to test their own sustainability level based on objective criteria and international standards.
Filling out the questionnaire is free of charge thanks to the CROSSDEST INTERREG project and can be done without registration. In this case, the data is not saved anywhere, and based on the answers, the system generates a detailed assessment in PDF format, which can be used to establish development plans or even prepare sustainability reports – especially if their partners subject to ESG reporting obligations request data from their tourism suppliers for this purpose. The questionnaire can be completed multiple times.
They were also informed that the I-DEST quality management index system was also prepared based on international standards, within the framework developed by Innotime Hungary Kft., which allows service providers to assess the suitability of their services by answering objective questions, for example in the areas of family-friendly services, bicycle-friendly tourism, pet-friendly hospitality, or accessibility. In the system, users can choose which index questions they are interested in, and the evaluations received based on the answers can also be saved in PDF, even without registration.
However, registration will make more options available to service providers, such as examining the connection to individual Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – they indicated.
The I-DEST system is currently used by tourism service providers in nearly 200 settlements from Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia and Belize, but Innotime is working to expand the user base to include service providers from other countries, increasing the accuracy of benchmarking analyses.
The comparative data and real-time statistics provided by the system help identify regional, national and international trends. Registered users also have the opportunity to create their own introduction page on the i-dest.com platform, so they can publicly communicate their sustainability achievements and aspirations. This option is free for all users who register on the platform by February 2026, during the pilot period, Innotime Hungary Kft. announced.
