A life-saving step on the highways: OMV installs defibrillators
It is an alarming figure that 27,000 deaths occur every year in Hungary due to sudden cardiac arrest, which means 70 patients per day. However, this number can be reduced by timely chest compressions and early use of a defibrillator. In such cases, the time window available for intervention is extremely limited. If there is no help, the probability of survival decreases by 10% every minute. At the same time, with quick first aid and the use of a defibrillator, the patient’s chance of survival can be tripled.
Due to the large amount of passing traffic on the highways and the location that is more difficult for the rescue unit to access, it is particularly important that trained and equipped help is available. Since accident prevention and customer safety are of primary importance to OMV Hungária Kft., the company decided to install resuscitation equipment at its filling stations located next to 19 highways.
The 19 defibrillators that have just been installed represent the most modern technology currently available, products of the well-known Japanese company Nihon Kohden in the field of medical electronics. The devices continuously help the user in Hungarian and, improving the patient’s chances of survival, they are able to examine the patient already during chest compressions and decide on the need for a shock. In addition, defibrillators perform daily self-tests, so they are always ready for use at any moment. The installed devices can also be used on children immediately without a separate electrode replacement.
