The new Advertising Code is available
The renewed Hungarian Advertising Code, signed by 24 professional organizations, will be effective from June 30, 2023. In addition to the Code, we are also updating our guidelines, which will be available to our members on our website.
The Hungarian Advertising Code was created with the aim of serving as a collection of professional and ethical norms for those who engage in advertising activities in Hungary.
By applying the code, the professional self-regulation recognized by the Parliament on the basic conditions of economic advertising activity and the law on the prohibition of unfair commercial practices towards consumers can be realized – taking into account the provisions of the European Union directives recognizing self-regulation and the commitment and results of the advertising profession to self-regulation. The first Hungarian Advertising Code was created by the Hungarian Advertising Association in 1981, and since then it has undergone numerous amendments and updates.
During its accession to the European Union, Hungary undertook legal harmonization, which consolidated the European Union and domestic legal regulatory environment affecting the advertising industry. The latest revision became necessary due to the practical experience gained during the application of the Code, the 2018 revised edition of the International Chamber of Commerce’s Code of Advertising and Marketing Communications, and changes in the legal and social environment.
