Analysts: retail performed surprisingly well in January
Analysts interwieved by MTI were surprised by the growth rate of retail sales in January, but they do not count a trend change after the previous fluctuating data. This year, they expect a slowdown, but domestic consumption remains one of the main drivers of economic growth.
According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH), in January, the volume of retail trade turnover was 5.4 percent higher than a year before, according to both the raw and calendar-adjusted data, while in December last year it was 3.7 percent (raw data) and calendar effect adjusted 4.1 percent more than the year before. Sales grew by 6.0 percent last year. (MTI)
