Lidl Hungary also helped nearly 1,000 needy people with food rescues in the summer
With its comprehensive food rescue program, Lidl Hungary tries to alleviate food waste, which is a global problem, and supports tens of thousands of needy people on an average monthly basis with the donated food. In this summer season, the company also offered the vegetables, fruit and bakery products left over from the Lidl Balaton swim, Campus Festivál and SZIN outposts, in the Lidl FesztMarket, for charitable purposes, helping nearly 1,000 people in need with the cooperation of its partner organizations.
Food loss occurs throughout the supply chain, from production, through transport and processing, to trade and consumption. Lidl Hungary is constantly working to ensure that as little food as possible becomes waste. To this end, it strives to determine optimal order quantities, uses a system that monitors shelf-life or shelf life, and offers reduced-price sales solutions. It became national Save it! within the framework of its campaign, the discount chain offers customers half-price fruit and vegetables that are no longer perfect on the outside, but still edible, in unit packs at a discounted price, as well as sweet and savory baked goods left over from the previous day’s sale, but still edible, assembled into 2- and 5-piece unit packs.
The company donates surplus food that is still suitable for human consumption to the needy in accordance with legal regulations. In addition to the legal obligation, the discount chain also helps the needy with vegetables, fruit and baked goods through its partners, and as part of its campaign launched in 2021, in addition to the traditional in-store food rescue, it also helps those in need with fruit, vegetable and baked goods left over from its summer sales – in the Lidl FesztMarket.
