The Hungarian Food Bank Association is launching a food collection campaign on Friday
The food collection campaign of the Magyar Élélmiszerbank Egyesület will take place from Friday to Sunday in the stores of four retail chains across the country.
The Food Bank asks everyone to put a non-perishable food item of their choice in their basket for the needy during their weekend shopping, which can be dropped off at the collection points next to the cash registers after payment, the association told MTI on Tuesday. A total of 6,500 volunteers will collect the donations in 334 stores in 160 settlements of the country from Friday to Sunday in Tesco, Aldi, Auchan and Metro stores.
The Food Bank distributes the collected foodstuffs to the needy in the run-up to the holidays and during the coldest weeks of January with the help of charitable organizations operating in the vicinity of individual stores. The donations will mainly help the elderly, large families, family support services and children’s homes, people with disabilities, the homeless and residents of the country’s most disadvantaged settlements. For those in need, canned goods, rice, biscuits, chocolate, baby food, pasta, long-lasting milk, sweets are the greatest help, as well as any food that does not require refrigeration, the announcement reads.
