Buying food: quality is important
According to a 2007 survey by GfK Hungária, the high quality of food to be bought is the primary consideration for Hungarian consumers. A 1-5 scale was used to evaluate the importance of the 14 criteria listed. Consumers are aware of the fact that different levels of quality exist. Harmony between price and quality is an important criteria. The origin of food is an important consideration for domestic consumers, as domestically produced food is regarded as more likely to be fresh. The absence of artificial additives is regarded as more important than low calorie or fat content. While the attractiveness of packaging only scored 2.6, the environmental impact of packaging materials scored 3.1, which means friendliness to the environment is more important than appearance.
