The balance of the waste-free Tisza program so far is quite impressive
A series of unique innovations – Plastic boats, Drinking Water Exchange Point, waste tracking bottle with GPS, the first River Rescue Center in Tisza – and the collection of more than 100 tons of waste, the result so far is the PET Cup, the National Directorate General of Water Management (OVF) and Coca-Cola Hungary’s joint program, the Waste-Free Tisza, launched in 2019, is implemented with the support of The Coca-Cola Foundation, the company’s global foundation.
Although it will take more time to completely clear the Tisza of waste, the project, which has been running for four years, has achieved significant results in the Hungarian and Transcarpathian sections as well. Its main results are innovations that all serve the purpose of preventing waste from entering rivers, learning more about the path of waste through rivers, and how river waste can be given new life and value.
Petkalóz are known for the fact that nothing is impossible for them and even if something doesn’t succeed at first, they keep trying until the research and development results.
“During the eleven years that have passed since the foundation of the river waste collection movement, we have learned that the efficiency of the work invested multiplies if the right partners support the good cause. During the Zero-Waste Tisza project, we not only work closely with Coca-Cola Hungary and the National Directorate General of Water, but also cooperate with numerous organizations and companies dealing with waste management, recycling, production, research and development, from here and beyond our borders.”
– said Miklós Gyalai-Korpos, the innovation coordinator of the PET Cup.
