Edible drinks
If there is a popularity ranking for cocktails in the United States, Bloody Mary probably has a place in the top 5. This drink was created in the 1920s and the original recipe includes tomato juice, vodka, a bit of lemon juice, Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and grated horseradish root – celery stick was only added later. A couple of years ago in a Florida bar they made edible drinking straws from celery. In a New Jersey bar the owner emphasised in his advertisement that they only used vegetable grown in local farms – and most of the time the decoration of Bloody Mary is eaten.
Recently we have discussed the paradigm shift in the world of drinks with the appearance of smoothies and other fruit- or vegetable-based drinks, the consumption of which nearly makes up for a meal – now it seems the same idea works for other drink types too. Recently they started to mix smoothie from the popular soup gazpacho.
