WWF Hungary and K&H cooperate
Today, 75 percent of natural habitats on land have been transformed as a result of human activity, more than 85 percent of freshwater habitats have disappeared, and this alarming balance is also visible in the decline of biological diversity. K&H and WWF Hungary concluded a cooperation agreement in order to take more effective action, giving priority to sustainability and biodiversity. K&H’s customers will also contribute to the support, since for every interaction with Kate, K&H’s digital financial assistant, from mid-September 2023 until the end of the year, the bank will set aside 100 forints from its own income for the realization of habitat rehabilitation goals.
With the intention of creating a tradition, K&H launched its initiative last year, which dedicates September to the cause of sustainability. In the spirit of this, it turned off the decorative lights in its buildings last year, thus saving 288,000 kWh in its entire network, which corresponds to the annual consumption of 120 average households, and also reduced light pollution. And this year, it signed a cooperation agreement with one of the most credible organizations for nature conservation, WWF Hungary, which has a history of more than three decades in Hungary. Within the framework of the partnership, biodiversity plays a prominent role.
The cooperation agreement was signed today by Guy Libot, CEO of K&H, and Katalin Sipos, director of WWF Hungary.
Guy Libot, CEO of K&H, stated in connection with the collaboration,
“People generally associate sustainability with the protection and preservation of the environment, and many people feel the negative effects of environmental problems in their daily lives. Financial institutions have a significant role in the transition to sustainability, since in addition to their own operations, they can also advance the low-carbon economy with loans and investment opportunities for the population and companies. Accordingly, sustainability and especially climate objectives are an integral part of our strategy. In order to effectively reduce harmful emissions, K&H will reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 80 percent by 2030 compared to the 2015 level, and use only green electricity in its buildings. Everyone, governments, companies, and private individuals must do their best to reverse the unfavorable processes affecting our planet, which is why we are happy to cooperate with WWF Hungary”.
