Agricultural higher education is becoming more and more popular, which is confirmed by this year’s admission results, the Minister of Agriculture announced. István Nagy pointed out that based on the data of felvi.hu operated by the Office of Education, 4,764 students applied for agricultural training in the first place, and 4,082 of them can start their studies from September, which means an increase of more than 28% compared to the previous year.

The head of the ministry reminded that agriculture and the food industry have become strategic sectors. He emphasized that safe food supply is also a matter of national security. Therefore, the professionals of the future must use the knowledge acquired in higher education to find the right answers to the challenges of the 21st century. This requires strong agricultural higher education and a closely cooperating research background. The goal is for agricultural higher education, in close cooperation with market players, to equip students with competitive knowledge in line with their needs. The dual training form, which is also increasingly popular among students applying for agricultural higher education, creates an excellent opportunity for this. There is no competitive agriculture without competitive knowledge. It’s good to see that more and more people are recognizing this, he added. It is also gratifying to see that students’ trust in agricultural higher education is constantly growing – added the Minister of Agriculture.

István Nagy emphasized that today in Hungary, students can choose from eight higher education institutions if they want to pursue agricultural higher education studies

In this way, all students who want to continue their studies in agriculture can find the right course and higher education institution for them. The openness of agricultural higher education, as well as the basic, master’s and undivided courses that can be studied here, students increasingly see secure knowledge, existential opportunity, and a long-term perspective. This process is clearly indicated by the fact that, for example, the number of students admitted to the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences increased by 32%, while the number of students admitted to the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty of Széchenyi István University increased by a total of 36%. He emphasized that, based on the experience of the past years, we can say that we are on the right track. We must continue on the path we have started, as the goal is to provide the Hungarian agricultural industry with the appropriate supply of professionals from secondary vocational training to higher education. All support is needed for this, as our common interest is to ensure long-term safe food production, which cannot be realized without well-trained professionals.
