More and more imports of garlic in Hungary

The garlic poduction area in Hungary has been steadily declining for years, with 27 percent less harvested in 2020 than a year before, agrarszektor.hu wrote. Thus, the Hungarian supply has been supplemented by imports of 12–40 percent of the domestic crop in the last three years. In 2020, 68 percent (406 tons) of garlic arrived to Hungary from Spain and 106 percent (415.9 tons) from the Netherlands than in 2019.

According to the data of the KSH, the production area and yield of garlic show a decreasing trend: the yield was between 5.2 and 7.9 thousand tons in the last ten years, in 2020 5212 tons of garlic were harvested from 768 hectares, which was 27 percent less than a year before, according to AKI’s latest report. Garlic is grown on the largest area (674 hectares) in Csongrád-Csanád county. (agrarszektor.hu)
