There are more and more green stores at Lidl
Lidl Hungary is committed to operating as sustainably as possible and, as a responsible company, is also working to increase the number of its own stores with sustainable certification. The company aims to be a pioneer among domestic retail chains in the sustainable building certification of its own stores. Its commitment is demonstrated by the fact that 92 Lidl stores already have the EDGE green building certification system certification, of which 83 stores have EDGE and 9 stores have EDGE ADVANCED certification.
It is of strategic importance for Lidl Hungary to mitigate the environmental effects of its own operations, one of the most important factors being resource efficiency. The department store chain has set itself the goal of continuously expanding the number of stores with sustainable certification in the properties belonging to its own portfolio, and to this end, it launched the EDGE certification of its own stores in 2023. The company’s commitment is shown by the fact that at the end of the 2023 business year, 92 Lidl stores already had the green building certification, of which 83 stores were EDGE and 9 stores were EDGE ADVANCED. EDGE is a green building certification system that focuses on making buildings more resource efficient. To obtain EDGE certification, a building must use at least 20% less energy, water and energy embodied in materials, while for EDGE ADVANCED certification it must use at least 40% less energy than a conventional building.
