The situation of Hungarian corn is getting worse and worse
In the year 2022 – perhaps it is not an exaggeration to say this – the weather has become the biggest enemy of land plant growers in Hungary. The lack of rainfall already caused serious concerns among the players of the sector at the beginning of the year, and it was not settled in a satisfactory way later. Although some rain finally arrived on the Hungarian lands in April, neither its quantity nor its distribution was optimal. By now, however, we have reached the point where it was necessary to start harvesting the autumn-sown grain crops ahead of time, and the situation of the sunflower and especially the corn stocks is getting worse every day. While there was enough precipitation in the western half of the country to expect even a mediocre harvest, in the eastern region, they have given up on corn in more than one place, according to the words of the farmers interviewed by the Agricultural Sector.
