Consumer Trust in German Food Safety Reaches New High
Consumer confidence in the safety of food in Germany has risen to 89%, marking a three-percentage-point increase from the previous year, according to a representative Forsa survey commissioned by QS Qualität und Sicherheit.
While trust is growing, nearly half of respondents (47%) said they still want more information about food safety, whereas 46% are satisfied with the current level of information available, Lebensmittelpraxis reported.
The study also revealed that consumers see the highest food safety risks in the way food is stored at home. Specifically, 68% identified refrigerator storage as a key risk factor, followed by home transport (64%) and improper food preparation, such as insufficient washing of fruits and vegetables (54%).
Interestingly, food recalls are increasingly being perceived in a positive light. For 41% of those surveyed, recalls actually increase confidence in the food safety system, while about one-third say such incidents create more uncertainty. Additionally, 37% of respondents feel that the number of food recalls has increased in recent years.
