According to KSH data, the area under cultivation and the amount of potatoes produced show a decreasing trend: in 2022, 17 percent less potatoes (199.2 thousand tons) were produced than a year earlier. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2023, 161.5 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested from 5.83 thousand hectares.

According to KSH data, the import of potatoes (without seed potatoes) decreased by 13 percent to 38.2 thousand tons between January and August 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. France remained the largest supplier, from which 21.2 thousand tons of potatoes arrived, 22 percent less. 5.55 thousand tons of potatoes were delivered to Hungary by 18 percent from the Netherlands. The export of potatoes decreased by 28 percent to 2.73 thousand tons in the observed period. The largest target markets were Romania (-18 percent, 931 tons) and Croatia (+78 percent, 705 tons).
The price of potatoes has risen
