Hungarians base Christmas more and more on sales
Similar to last year, this year’s awareness determines the attitude of Hungarians when purchasing Christmas gifts – this year’s already traditional Christmas research by Árukereső.hu reveals. Most people buy their gifts before December, and regardless of inflation, the budget amounts remain the same.
The amount spent on gifts remains unchanged
Árukereső.hu has been offering a comprehensive snapshot of the current holiday season and consumer attitudes among the adult population for the ninth year. It turns out that – similarly to the year 2022 – 15 percent of Hungarians draw the spending limit for Christmas gifts at HUF 15,000, but a quarter would spend up to HUF 45,000, while a fifth would spend up to HUF 75,000 or even HUF 150,000 . More than half of those surveyed plan to spend the same as last year, and a quarter less. This again highlights that although Christmas is still a time for spending, the economic situation also leaves its mark – after all, due to inflation, these amounts are worth less than in previous years, so in terms of real value, the amounts intended for the Christmas period are actually less are ripe as last year. However, it is a particularly interesting observation that in our neighbors and in the other countries of the region – that is, in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia – people plan to spend larger sums than the Hungarians.
