Pig farming is becoming more expensive, meat prices are stagnating
While a rapid rise in food prices has been observed recently, pork has been stagnating at low prices for a long time. This puts the sector in a very difficult position, as farmers have to spend more and more on animals these days, but they can only sell the product at a depressed price, Index wrote.
At present, the price of a pork leg per kilo at multis is between 1000-1500 forints, although in the markets it is sometimes close to 2000 forints. The purchase price of live pigs is between 350-380 forints per kilogram. The transfer price of processors and slaughterhouses slipped from almost 500 HUF in the summer to almost 400 HUF, but the price of feed has almost doubled. (Index, Bereznay István)
