UK: Lidl and Aldi continue to win ground over Big Four
Sales in British supermarkets have risen in the 12 weeks running up to 17 June by 2.1 percent, compared to the same period in 2017, reports Kantar Worldpanel. After a few difficult years, the total supermarket turnover has been rising without fail since June 2016.
The fastest growing supermarket in UK is the online supermarket Ocado at the moment, which realised a turnover growth of 10.1 percent in the last 12 weeks. Discounters Lidl and Aldi continue to win ground over the Big Four (Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons).
Aldi’s market share rose to 7.4 percent and Lidl grew to 5.4 percent, whilst the big four supermarkets all lost market share. (Agroberichten Buitenland, freshplaza.com)
