A unique experience farm is being developed at the University of Gödöllő
A unique demonstration garden for plant production and animal husbandry is being developed in Gödöllő, on the Szent István Campus of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences (MATE), it was announced at a press conference held on Friday. Before the laying of the foundation stone,
Balázs Hankó, Minister for Culture and Innovation, emphasized that MATE is one of the most decisive players in the renewed and successful Hungarian agricultural higher education, which belongs to the top five percent of the world’s best universities and one of the top 150 universities in the world in the field of agricultural science. This is thanks to the renewal that places Hungarian knowledge and practice at the center, he stated. Balázs Hankó highlighted that a conscious construction project has been launched at MATE, which helps and makes Hungarian agricultural training significant on an international level, which strengthens not only Hungarian but also the entire Carpathian Basin agriculture, and can even provide support to Western Balkan, Asian and African countries.
The minister also mentioned that in addition to the five-hectare experience farm, the Hungarian Agricultural Museum is moving to Gödöllő from Vajdahunyad Castle, so that Hungarian agriculture can be presented in its entirety
Csaba Gyuricza, the rector of MATE, spoke about the fact that the university has teaching farms, plant production demonstration areas and botanical gardens operating throughout the country, but they would like to develop a system in Gödöllő that provides the most important knowledge in the fields of plant production and agriculture in a unified manner. The two billion forint experience economy, which is expected to be completed by August 2027, will be unique in Europe and the world, the rector said. He added that the demonstration garden will not only help university students, but will also serve to educate them about sustainability.
