Danubius Hotels conducted a survey among foreign tourists visiting their hotels in Budapest. The results showed that Danubius Hotels guests return to Budapest several times. They visit for the first time for the culture and architecture, and return for the food and baths. They are looking for experiences, which include local gastronomic specialties, and the quality of the hotel breakfast is of paramount importance to them. From booking habits to gastronomic experiences, the needs of guests visiting Budapest were comprehensively examined.

A survey was conducted among individual guests from abroad, website visitors and newsletter subscribers of Danubius Hotels Zrt.’s Budapest hotels. The hotel chain operates four hotels in rural Hungary and five in Budapest under the Danubius Hotels brand. Among the hotels in Budapest are iconic hotel buildings such as Danubius Hotel Astoria, Danubius Hotel Helia and the country’s largest hotel, Danubius Hotel Hungaria. The aim of the survey was to ensure that the hotel chain’s developments respond to real guest needs, precisely defining the habits of the target audience.

Hotel experiences and gastronomic delights

The results received showed that Danubius Hotels’ international guests are experienced travelers. Health-conscious dining options are playing an increasingly important role when choosing accommodation. Typically, the 18-34 year old age group pays more attention to health-conscious offerings.

They consider breakfast to be the most important hotel meal, and this is where most of them encounter hotel gastronomy. The research also clearly shows that the most important aspect of assessing breakfast is quality baked goods, and the second is the quality of coffee. While the latter affects women more, good orange juice affects men more. In terms of gender distribution, the availability of local products, the hot food and fruit offer all play an important role in the breakfast experience.

“Our research has shown that our guests consider breakfast to be the most important meal, which is why we pay special attention to the hotel’s selection. László Papdi, Danubius Hotel F&B Director, has recently revamped the breakfast buffet offering, and his developments are in harmony with what we learned from our research,”

added Petra Fabriczki, Danubius Hotels’ communications director.
