One, two, lime – lime honey promotion campaign was launched
Lime honey, the popular immune booster of the winter period, is the focus of this year’s honey consumption campaign – it was announced at the press conference organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Marketing Center (AMC) and the National Hungarian Bee Association (OMME). In the following period, at the suggestion of OMME, attention will be drawn to the physiological and medicinal effects of varietal honeys. While last year the goal was to introduce sunflower honey, known for its blood pressure-lowering effects, this year lime honey, one of the natural remedies for colds, is being promoted.
Variety honeys, including linden honey, are at the center of the honey consumption promotion campaign taking place in the coming weeks.Honey is not only an excellent immune booster in winter, but also an excellent source of vitamins.
At the press conference announcing the campaign, Zsolt Feldman, the State Secretary responsible for agriculture and rural development at the Ministry of Agriculture, said: it depends a lot on us, the Hungarian consumers, to give priority to Hungarian honey, so we should look for and buy producer honey directly from beekeepers. This is important primarily because our traditional EU export markets have been flooded with cheap honey or fake honey produced outside of Europe under uncontrolled conditions, which causes enormous damage to the Hungarian beekeeping industry, warned the state secretary.
Lime honey is a particularly recommended treat now, as it can help you heal especially during the cold and sore throat period.Péter Bross, president of OMME, talked about why linden honey is the main character of this year’s honey campaign.
“With our campaign, we focus attention on variety honeys, among other things, since most people prefer acacia and flower honey when buying honey, while the repertoire is extremely rich. We focused on sunflower honey last year, this year lime honey is in the center of attention. It is not only an excellent alternative to honey, but its effects on health are also unique, in addition, it is the only type of honey in our country that comes from a native plant – the silver-leaved linden tree.”
he added.
Since 2018, the Agricultural Marketing Center has been promoting honey and, within that, the varieties of honey, with campaigns to encourage consumption.
