A carton of beer will cost HUF 1,200 more from January
The new glass redemption system will come into effect on the first of January, and the Sunday broadcast of ATV’s Weekly Diary thoroughly covered the importance of this initiative. The report highlights the problem of plastic bottle waste and points out that with a more careful redemption system we could handle up to 3 billion bottles per year.
With the introduction of the new system, 50,000 tons of PET bottles, 18,000 tons of metal, and 91,000 tons of glass bottles will be recyclable. In this way, a total of 158,000 tons of beverage packaging can be saved from the burden on our waters and forests.
The report details what changes we can expect from January if we take advantage of the redemption option:
The deposit fee will be HUF 300 for a small one and a half liter of water.
In the case of two shrinks of water, a deposit fee of HUF 600 is payable.
In the case of three shrinks, the amount of the deposit is HUF 900.
For one carton, i.e. 24 pieces of beer, we have to pay a HUF 1,200 deposit.
Beer drinkers will hardly be happy about the latter.
