Primark’s first domestic store will open in a month
Primark will open its doors at 10 a.m. on May 28 in Budapest’s Aréna Mall, the international fashion department store chain announced. The 3,100-square-meter store will offer women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, as well as home furnishings, beauty products, and accessories. Primark will employ 180 people in Hungary.
Primark announced in January 2022 that it will start operations in Hungary, making Hungary the sixth country in Central and Eastern Europe and the seventeenth worldwide where the chain is present. The Primark brand name may be familiar to Hungarians from rummaging and shopping trips in Western Europe. The popularity of the department store chain is such that some travel agencies organize bus tours for Hungarian tourists to shop at the Primark store in Vienna.
Primark’s expansion in Central and Eastern Europe is nothing new: it opened its first store in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2019, and is currently present in five countries with a total of 12 stores in Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia. In parallel with the opening in Budapest, Primark plans to open more stores in the Central and Eastern European region, including Timisoara in Romania, Prague in the Czech Republic and Bydgoszcz in Poland.
