A year ago, Hungary’s leading high-rise construction company, Market Építő Zrt., launched its new-generation training program. The Career Building Program, which was announced as an experiment at the time and aimed at developing architectural and civil engineering students, has now become one of the company’s strategic pillars: several young engineers from the first year continue their careers as full-time employees within the group, and in March, the third year of the program will also be launched.

In the construction industry – just like in other technical sectors – the competition for talented young professionals is becoming increasingly fierce. The long-term goal of Market Építő Zrt., which turns 30 this year, is to offer not just a job, but a real start to a professional career to the most promising university students, who can learn about everyday tasks on live projects with experienced mentors. The company’s accumulated knowledge and values over the course of its three decades of operation fundamentally determine its operations, according to which it pays special attention to supporting young talents and preparing the next generation of the construction industry.

There was already significant interest at the start: 68 students applied for the first year, of whom 15 were able to join the program after a multi-stage selection process. In the second round, 8 out of 47 applicants were able to start the internship period, and the same 47 applicants as last time have arrived for the third year, which is currently under selection. The vast majority of participants are students of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Óbuda University, or the University of Pécs.

The first-year interns worked on 13-14 different construction and preparation projects, thus deepening their practical knowledge at several sites and project locations. Their work was accompanied by experienced mentors, who supported them not only professionally, but also personally.

The program focused on a complex professional and personal development path. The students participated in time management training, first aid courses, construction law and project process lectures, LEAN workshops, communication and change management training, and factory visits, while also taking an active role in Market’s large-scale projects.

According to the mentors’ feedback, the fresh thinking of the interns created real added value. Their openness, proactive attitude, and digital affinity helped in several cases to rethink established operating patterns, simplify processes, and improve the flow of information between locations and project teams. There was also an intern who, from initial uncertainty, became a confident, proactive team member in a few months, and by the end of the program, he was already participating in the joint work as a thinking partner.

“For us, training new employees is a strategic investment in the future of the company and the entire construction industry”

– said Dr. Péter Szász, Head of HR at Market Építő Zrt.. –

“We believe that knowledge, experience and corporate culture remain viable only if we consciously pass it on to the next generation. In the Career Building Program, we see that young engineers not only learn from us, but also give to us. They bring new energy, a fresh perspective and digital thinking to the organization. We are particularly proud that at the end of the first year we can welcome four excellent young colleagues as full-time employees at Market.”

The third year will start in March 2026. The proven structure will remain, but in the coming period, even greater emphasis will be placed on deepening professional knowledge, automating processes, and supporting more transparent, efficient operations.

The Market Career Building Program has made it clear in one year: the engineers of the future will not become true construction industry experts on the pages of textbooks, but in real projects, alongside committed professionals – and Market intends to base its growth on this conscious knowledge building in the long term.
