These are the prices at this year’s Sziget
After a two-year hiatus, the Sziget Festival is opening its doors again this year. And as we have been monitoring the peak-breaking domestic inflation, it is not surprising that the crowds who want to party can prepare for brutally high prices at the festival as well. But what exactly?
The Pénzcentrum visited the Island again this time, where we toured the festival grounds to see what and how much it will cost this year. Let’s say it ahead of time, quite shocking figures for the Hungarian wallet will follow, but of course, as we know, for the masses of festival-goers coming from the West, these can be said to be at most average, and even cheaper.
Beer horror on the cube
Before we get into this year’s prices, it’s worth going back in time to give people some benchmarks. In 2018, for example, draft beer cost HUF 700, and canned beer cost HUF 800. In 2019, however, the price of liquid bread was HUF 50 higher, while draft beer cost HUF 750 and canned beer 850 HUF. Then the pandemic hit, followed by the brutal price explosion, as a result of which, for the 2022 festival, draft beer became HUF 1,290, and canned beer 1,390 HUF. This means that while the price of beer rose by 7 percent between 2018-2019, the rate of increase between 2019-2022 was 72 (!) percent!
Seeing the brutal price increase, it is worth noting that, according to KSH statistics, the average consumer price of quality light beer rose by 25 percent between July 2019 and July 2022. Even compared to this, the price explosion of festival beer will be three times higher.
