Eggs with a trademark offer safety
Hungary’s egg market was also affected by the Fipronil scandal, because then country produces only 75 percent of the eggs it consumes. Contaminated eggs were pulled from the market, which led to a product shortage and consequently a price increase – revealed Norbert Káhn, director of commerce at Gyermelyi Zrt.
Gyermelyi Tojás Kft. was the first to ask for a laboratory test by the authorities and the National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH) certified that the company’s eggs contain no Fipronil. Mr Káhn opines that in a situation like this the use of the Hungarian Product trademark, which attests that a product is made in Hungary and it is reliable, can become more important for shoppers when making a buying decision.
Another egg producer, Hírös Tojás also uses the Hungarian Product trademark and their supplier, Mizsetáp Kft. was also among the first to get NÉBIH’s Fipronil-free certification for their eggs. Owner and managing director Csaba Kollár reckons that the authorities should perform inspections more often, in order to cleanse the market from producers who don’t comply with the regulations. //
