Healthy summer nutrition tips with Eisberg
With the arrival of the really hot summer and the bikini season, many people try to eat healthier, but despite the misconceptions, it is not necessary to completely omit fats from our diet. Moderate consumption of saturated fats is justified, but it is also beneficial to include vegetable fat sources such as oilseeds, vegetable oils, and fish in the diet, as they contain unsaturated fatty acids. Cold-pressed oils also stand out among these: they are rich in vitamin E, phytonutrients and antioxidants, reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and can help prevent certain tumors.
Although 10-35 percent of Hungarians follow some kind of free diet, from which certain foods are excluded due to allergies or food sensitivities, it has a beneficial effect on our health if there is a palette of colorful foods on our plate, we eat a varied diet and do not continue to eat one-sided meals. Kinga Shenker-Horváth, Eisberg’s dietetic expert, responded to the beliefs and misconceptions about fats and oils.
It’s summer, bikini season, diets and light salads, but it’s a misconception that we have to cut out all kinds of fat from our diet if we want to eat healthy. One of the most common beliefs about oils is that fats do not fit into the diet and can only be unhealthy for the body. “Fats are involved in many basic physiological mechanisms in our bodies in addition to providing energy. From the point of view of preserving our health, it is not only important how much fat we consume, but also what kind of fat,” says Shenker-Horváth Kinga, sports dietitian and nutrition specialist.
