Hungarian meat industry companies performed quite well
According to the summary of the Agrárszektor, the results of Hungarian meat industry companies in 2023 showed significant differences. Some larger companies, such as Kometa 99 Zrt. and Pick Szeged, achieved particularly good financial results, while others, such as Pápai Hús, continued to struggle with significant losses.
Financial operations and the use of high interest rates played a key role in the development of the results. Kometa, for example, achieved significant growth in both the export market and domestic sales, but the operating results did not show a clear improvement. Instead, the increase in interest income brought substantial improvement to the company.
Pick Szeged followed a similar pattern, where operating results declined, but an increase in financial income and a decrease in interest expenses compensated for these losses. The company managed to keep its total sales stable despite the inflationary pressure.
Contrary to the aforementioned successes, Pápai Hús continued to accumulate significant losses, although the amount of losses decreased compared to the previous year. Financial results improved somewhat, but were not enough to significantly improve the company’s performance.
Smaller businesses, such as Gyulahús and Kaiser Food, are also struggling with deteriorating operational results, while financial operations are helping the situation only slightly. In the case of both companies, the sales revenue increased, but due to the weakening of the operating results and the limited efficiency of the financial activities, the final results show only a slight improvement.
Overall, the year 2023 of the Hungarian meat industry showed mixed results, which vary depending on the effectiveness of financial strategies. For larger meat processors, income from interest has improved the situation, while challenges remain for smaller companies.
