Egg prices are increasing throughout Europe
Czechs are buying large quantities of eggs from German stores near the border, because eggs are much more cheaper there than in the Czech Republic. Therefore, German stores strict the purchase of eggs.
The German association of egg producers reported that in the stores near the border an up to 500 percent increase occurred in egg sales, due to the price difference: in the Czech Republic ten eggs cost 2 to 2.80 euros in Germany the best price is 1.09 euros.
Eggs are expensive and out of stock throughout Europe, because of the EU regulation that requires modified and modern cages, to provide more room for the animals.
The deadline for the modernization of the cages has expired, but in 13 EU countries hens are kept in conventional cages. But according to the EU regulation these eggs cannot be sold. Expenses of the breeders also increased, because they had to implement significant investments to meet the EU standards. (MTI)
