The price of pork in the neighborhood can skyrocket
The price of pork in Slovakia is spectacularly high, and another price increase is expected in April.
“Pork meat can become more expensive by 15-18 percent only in March, with a further increase in April”
– said Eva Forraivá, the director of the Slovak Meat Processing Association, according to whom the sector produces the highest prices in the last ten years. There are several reasons for this, in addition to higher energy prices, the sharp decline in stock is also a contributing factor – reports VG.hu.
According to information from Slovak news television TA3, the number of pigs in Slovakia fell from 500,000 to 400,000 in a single year due to low purchase prices. While the country used to be self-sufficient in pork to the extent of 40-45 percent, today this indicator has fallen below 25 percent.
