Rising prices in the bakery industry
Consumer prices in July were 8.4 per cent up compared to July 2006. According to a KSH report, food prices fell by 0.8 per cent compared to June. The prices of seasonal foods fell, while that of pork and poultry rose by 5.1 per cent and 3.7 per cent respectively. The price of energy, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products did not change compared to the previous month. Food prices rose faster than the average rate of price increase, by 10.1 per cent compared to July 2006. The price of bakery products rose by 21.2 per cent.
