Dr Nikolaus Kriz takes on the role of new EFSA Executive Director
From 1 September 2025, Nikolaus Kriz officially took up the role of EFSA Executive Director following his appointment by the Management Board.
An Austrian veterinarian with over 30 years of international experience, Dr Kriz has dedicated his career to science, public health and European cooperation. He previously held senior positions at the European Medicines Agency and has spent the past eight years as Head of EFSA’s Veterinary, Animal Welfare and Phytosanitary Division and, more recently, Head of Risk Assessment. Established 23 years ago, EFSA has become a global reference point for open, independent science on food safety. Dr Kriz is committed to building on this foundation and ensuring that the Authority remains a trusted, transparent and future-proof partner for policymakers and citizens alike.
