Ban on smoking?
According to Ágnes Horváth, minister of health, her ministry will submit the bill for the amendment of the law on the protection of non-smokers to parliament by the end of March. A complete ban on smoking is proposed for all public places, including bars and restaurants. The final bill is not expected to be ready before the middle of May. Tamás Háber, chairman of the Guild of Hungarian Caterers has told us that he regards legislation currently in effect as being sufficient and in compliance with EU and WHO guidelines. He also believes that a ban on smoking would have grave consequences for the bar and restaurant sector and would also result in a HUF 20-30 billion loss of revenues for the state.
