József Dobos C. (1847-1924)
Most people know József Dobos C. as an excellent confectioner, probably because it was him who created the famous Dobos Cake. In 1878 he had opened his first delicatessen shop in Kecskeméti Street, which was later followed by another one in Magyar Street. He started his international career at the Paris Exposition of 1889, where he won a gold medal. His famous cake was exported to many countries in Europe. Many confectioners in Budapest were trying to copy the cake, but they didn’t succeed. In 1906 he handed over the cake’s original recipe to the guild of confectioners. József Dobos C. was also the author of the famous cookbook, Magyar-franczia szakácskönyv, which was published in 1881. //
