Frozen pizzas concentrated in discount stores
According to Nielsen research, retail sales of frozen pizzas grew by 18 per cent in terms of value in the April 2006–March 2007 period. The market share of snack-type pizzas remains unchanged at 20 per cent in terms of value. Sales are frozen pizzas are increasingly concentrated in 401–2 500 square meter stores. Their market share was 57 per cent in the above period. Discount stores have also improved their position as a result of the increasing number of private labels. Average price for 301–400 gram frozen pizzas was HUF 404 in February this year, whereas it had been HUF 381 a year earlier. The market share of hyper markets also remains high at 30 per cent. Over 400 square meter stores account for 87 per cent of total sales. Among flavours, “special” is the most popular with a third of total sales, while ham is the second with roughly 20 per cent. Cheese and salami flavours hold 10 per cent of the market respectively.
