Aldi is dynamically increasing its discount network
The German retail giant Aldi is dynamically expanding its discount store network in the United States.
Their aim is to strengthen their position against local rivals Walmart and Publix Super Markets, particularly in the southeastern states of the United States. According to their plans, the number of Aldi stores in the US will increase to 2,700 by acquiring the Southeastern Grocers company, which operates the Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarket chains. After obtaining the necessary antitrust approvals, the transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of next year. Aldi intends to transform some of the acquired stores into their own brand format, while others will retain their current names and profiles.
In addition to this acquisition, Aldi is also expanding its American network by adding another 120 new stores this year. The company has invested around $2.5 billion in the southeastern region of the US so far.
