The second-hand market in Hungary is expanding dynamically: the iPhone and Apple Watch are the best sellers
The market for second-hand devices grew by 12% globally, but there are outstanding results in Hungary as well: an online marketplace doubled its turnover compared to last year, indicating the strengthening of demand for refurbished electronic devices. Hungarian customers are mainly interested in refurbished iPhones and Apple Watches, in the case of the former, two- or three-year-old models, such as the iPhone 13, are the most popular, while the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 models are also among the smart watches. wanted – writes Pénzcentrum.
Similar to international trends, Hungarian customers are increasingly looking for the premium category. According to data from the online marketplace, demand for refurbished models of the high-end iPhone 15 Pro surged in the third quarter of 2024, especially among Generation Z. A similar trend can be observed in the Apple Watch market, the top models available here – such as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 – are very popular.
While the demand for the latest models in the case of smartphones and smartwatches has increased, the price-value ratio dominates the market for laptops and tablets: Hungarian customers often choose the 2020 MacBook Air or the 2018 iPad models, which they offer reliable performance at an affordable price. With Black Friday approaching, the company expects growth and is preparing with increased inventory to meet demand for refurbished premium devices, which account for nearly 20% of annual sales in the November period.
