Production of international deodorant brands starts in Hungary
Unilever is bringing a new product category and the production of globally known beauty care brands to Hungary: the production of Axe, Rexona and Dove aerosol deodorants will start in Hungary in the near future. The new plant will be built at the company’s site in Nyírbátor, in the immediate vicinity of the household chemical factory that produces Domestos, Flóraszept, Szavo and OMO products, among others.
The value of the investment is nearly 50 million euros, which is realized with a 20% subsidy from the Hungarian state. In addition, the self-financed machine lines represent an additional value of 25 million euros. The launch of the investment was announced by Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Tamás Ács, Managing Director of Unilever Hungary, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Budapest.
Three production lines will be put into operation in the new plant, which will create nearly 100 new jobs, so that 150 million bottles of deodorant can be produced in the facility every year. This will make the Nyírbátor unit the 4th largest such plant in Unilever’s global network. According to the plans, 92 percent of the production will be exported, so in addition to covering the domestic market, they will also deliver to the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and Greece. Construction started this fall, and production is expected to begin in the first half of 2026.
“We are proud that Unilever decided on a site in Hungary to implement the investment. Nyírbátor was a great choice for several reasons: the skilled workforce, the favorable location, Unilever’s existing household chemicals plant, as well as the outstanding business results and significant experience achieved here.”
– said Tamás Ács, managing director of Unilever Hungary.
