Delhaize Belgium Scraps In-Store Collection Fees For Online Grocery Orders
Delhaize has announced that Belgian customers will no longer have to pay collection fees for online grocery orders picked up in stores.
Previously, shoppers paid between €2.95 to €4.95 for the service unless the order exceeded €150 or included selected promotional products.
Delhaize claims to be the first food retailer in Belgium to offer its ‘Collect‘ service free of charge.
The company operates 119 collection points across the country, and this change is expected to make the service more accessible to a wider customer base.
The initiative is part of Delhaize’s strategy to integrate its online and physical store services.
Studies cited by the company indicate that 80% of Collect users also shop in store, highlighting the complementary nature of e-commerce and traditional retail channels.
Customers now have the option to place orders online and collect them at their preferred location without additional charges.
Reusable Foldable Boxes
Alongside the introduction of free collection, Delhaize is replacing cardboard boxes with reusable foldable boxes for all e-commerce services.
The transition is projected to reduce cardboard waste by 1,205 tonnes annually, equivalent to saving 14,000 trees.
The initiative aims to lower the environmental impact of packaging while ensuring that groceries remain protected during transport.
Reusable boxes provide a more secure and practical alternative to traditional cardboard packaging.
According to the company, their durable structure helps maintain product quality throughout delivery and collection processes.
