Dél-100 Kft.: Without personality and good prices, there is no chance to compete with international chains
The commercial company Dél-100 Kft., which is still entirely in Hungarian hands, was founded between 1995-1997. István Dobi – currently one of the owners of the company – started the business with classic marketing in response to the commercial trends of the time.
At that time, he spent HUF 50,000 out of a HUF 100,000 loan to buy a Trabant, while HUF 50,000 was spent on inventory. This brought success relatively quickly and the traffic increased almost month by month. However, he soon recognized the limitations of this form of sales, and therefore considered it necessary to change. Thus, leaving the markets behind, he moved his inventory to community centers and organized his acquaintances, passing on the possibility and concept of sales. According to the possibilities of the time, the residents of the area were prepared for the shopping day with leaflets.
The change brought leaps and bounds in development, but in this case too, the boundaries were soon broken, so in 1998, together with Sándor Hegyi, Dél-100 Kft. was established in Kiskunfélegyháza. The goal was to find partners and to be able to appear in the area with shops, replacing market-type sales. In response to the needs of customers, they finally opened a wholesale warehouse for household goods and chemicals and several retail stores. These were the “100 HUF shops” that were very fashionable at the time.
