In December, additional significant sums will help the dairy sector
After the advance payment, in the last month of the year, additional payments from EU and national sources will be received by the actors of the dairy sector, indicating the government’s commitment to the sector.
Milk production is a particularly important sector of agriculture, which plays a significant role in providing the population with high-quality, healthy food, in employment and in the production of added value. The sector’s output in 2023 was HUF 309 billion, which accounted for a fifth of the output of animal husbandry, 19 percent, and 7 percent of the output of agriculture.
In the last quarter, the government launched several rounds of significant payments to help the work of dairy farms
In September, 3,600 milk producers received payments of HUF 9.1 billion after entitlements for 2022 under the title of temporary national milk subsidy. This was followed in October and November by the advance payment of the subsidy for dairy cows financed from EU funds, and HUF 8.1 billion was transferred to 2,500 milk producers by the Hungarian State Treasury.
After the end of the advance payment period, new transfers are possible
In the case of the temporary national milk subsidy, in the first week of December, 2,200 producers received the first payment, even after the updated historical base entitlements for 2023, in a total value of about HUF 7.9 billion. And this week – thanks to the progress of the control processes – the payment of the dairy cow subsidy linked to production financed by EU funds will continue with partial payments. It is expected that this may affect 2,700 producers, and the amount may be HUF 7 billion. Since the beginning of autumn, in addition to the area-based subsidies, more than HUF 32 billion has already arrived in the accounts of dairy farms. The Hungarian Treasury will also initiate final payments before the end of the year for those farmers where the progress of the verification of applications allows this.
